Private Investigator Training in Switzerland – Observation Specialists (FSIO)

Discretion · Expertise · Results

The activity of a private investigator is a liberal profession regulated in Switzerland at the cantonal level. Since 01.10.2019, it has also been subject to authorization by the Federal Social Insurance Office (FSIO) in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Act on the General Part of Social Insurance Law (LPGA) and its implementing ordinance (OPGA).

Knowledge of laws and regulations, investigative techniques, research methods, and surveillance and tracking techniques cannot be improvised. They constitute the daily work of a private investigator. In addition, a private investigator must be able to present the collected or observed information in a precise, comprehensive, impartial, and objective manner within a detailed written report, which may, where appropriate, be submitted before the courts. Only private investigator training programs recognized in Switzerland provide candidates with the necessary and appropriate knowledge.

On 01.10.2019, new implementing provisions concerning the observation of insured persons (Art. 43a and 43b LPGA) entered into force. Social insurance institutions may therefore engage private investigators to conduct surveillance of insured persons suspected of fraud. Article 7b of the OPGA sets out the conditions for granting authorization to specialists responsible for such observations. The authorization issued by the FSIO requires, on the one hand, that the applicant possess the necessary legal knowledge and, on the other hand, that they have completed training in the surveillance of individuals.

Our private investigator training program is federally recognized by the FSIO as an “observation course” for the surveillance of individuals. This high-quality program is designed in accordance with the latest police investigative, observation, and tracking techniques, adapted to the specific prerogatives and needs of private investigators. The training meets the highest standards in this field and includes five full days of instruction (theory and practical exercises).
